Frequently asked questions
About Mile Supply
- What is Mile Supply?
A running gear finder. You answer questions about how you run, and we recommend shoes and other gear with the reasons behind each pick, its trade-offs, and alternatives worth considering.
- What does it cost?
Nothing. The profile and recommendations are free, with no purchase required.
- Do you sell the gear?
Not today. Each pick includes a link to the manufacturer or another primary source (the "View source" link). There's no checkout and no shipping.
- Is this medical advice?
No. Mile Supply doesn't diagnose conditions, prevent injury, or replace advice from a qualified professional. If you tell us about a current injury, recommendations get more cautious — that's as far as it goes.
Getting recommendations
- How long does it take?
Less than 10 minutes. It starts at 8 short sections and only grows if you ask about more kinds of gear. You can save and come back.
- Do I need an account?
No. You can answer the questions and see your recommendations without one. An account lets you come back to your profile and use the gear locker.
- Can I change my answers later?
Yes. You can update your profile at any time.
- What kinds of gear do you cover?
Running shoes, apparel, socks, fuel, hydration, watches and accessories, recovery and race-day gear.
How picks are chosen
- How do you decide what to recommend?
We remove the products your answers rule out, then compare the rest with your answers using written rules, one rule at a time. Each pick lists the reasons it matched. The full method is on How we recommend.
- Why only three picks per category?
A short list you can act on is more useful than a long one. We also won't show two generations of the same model.
- Why did a category show no picks for me?
A product needs at least two matches that set it apart from the others in its category. When a category can't meet that bar for you, we say so instead of filling the list.
- What does "(unverified)" mean on a reason?
The reason relies on a product fact we haven't verified yet.
Running shoes
- How does the running shoe finder work?
You answer questions about how you run and what you run in now. We remove the shoes your answers rule out, compare the rest with your answers using written rules, and show you up to three picks with the reasons for each. Start on the running shoe finder page.
- Which shoes and brands do you cover?
We cover more than 220 road and trail shoes from about 20 brands, including ASICS, Brooks, Hoka, New Balance, Nike, Saucony, Salomon and Altra.
- Can it find shoes for wide or narrow feet?
Yes. Tell us the width you need and shoes that aren't made in it are removed before anything is ranked.
- Does it recommend road or trail shoes?
Both. Road runners are shown road shoes and trail runners trail shoes. If you run both, we look at both, led by the surface you run most, unless you tell us which surface your next pair is for. Each surface has to clear the same bar, so you may see picks from only one.
- What if I don't know what shoe I run in now?
You can skip those questions. The picks will rest on your other answers.
- Will it tell me if I need stability shoes?
No. We don't assess your gait or arch, and we don't choose a shoe to treat or prevent a condition. If you tell us, from your own experience, that more supportive shoes reduce your discomfort, and ask us to take that into account, it can move stability shoes up your list. A specialty running store or a qualified professional can look at how you run.

No. Your ZIP code never directly changes which products we recommend.
